SHDS Partners with Syracuse Jewish Family Service (SJFS) to Promote Mental Health
SJFS clinician Hannah Pietra, LCAT, will be visiting SHDS to help promote mental health and well-being among the school community. Meeting with each grade for one period most weeks, Hannah will provide students with education around emotional literacy and engage them in activities and strategies for social-emotional-behavioral learning. Students will practice age-appropriate mindfulness exercises and other coping strategies to help them better understand and manage their emotions in and out of school. Also, students will participate in group activities that encourage and empower them to collaborate with, respect, and support one another. Music and other creative arts–based methods will be incorporated into classroom and other experiential learning formats. Ms. Pietra will regularly communicate with teachers about what the students are working on in class, and she will supply resources for them to further support the ideas and skills the students are developing. Syracuse Jewish Family Service will also be communicating with parents through updates in the SHDS Weekly.
